MARENGO, Ill. - Mecum Collector Car Auctions has teamed up with
GreenLight Collectibles, a die-cast car manufacturer based in
Indianapolis, Ind., to produce 1:64 scale replicas of select
high-profile automobiles sold across the Mecum Auction block. The
limited-edition replica vehicles will be available for sale during Dana
Mecum's 23rd Original Spring Classic Auction, May 19-23, 2010, at the
Indiana State Fairgrounds.
"These high-quality die-cast collectibles are a wonderful way for
enthusiasts at any budget to take home a car of their dreams," said
President Dana Mecum. "The GreenLight replicas are exact
reproductions of some of the most sought-after cars featured at our
events. They are both a nice keepsake item as well as a perfect
gift idea for car enthusiasts."
GreenLight, which was founded in 2002 by Kevin Davey, a former licensing
director at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, currently showcases three
cars sold at Mecum Auctions in its Auction Block Series 11, including a
1969 Chevrolet Chevelle COPO sold for $310,000 at Mecum's 2009 Original
Spring Classic Auction; a 1966 Shelby GT-350 Hertz Fastback that Mecum
sold for $112,500 at their 2009 Kissimmee, Fla., Auction; and a 1971
Dodge Charger R/T Hemi sold for $215,000 at the 2008 Original Spring
Classic Auction. The highly collectible series, which has a
limited production run of 4,000 units, features opening hoods, detailed
engines, real rubber tires, metal body and chassis, detailed graphics
and custom license plates.
In May 2010, GreenLight and Mecum will introduce the Auction Block
Series 12 line, which will include three more die-cast cars modeled
after prominent Mecum auction sales: a 1970 Pontiac GTO Judge, sold for
$350,000 at the 2009 St. Charles, Ill., Auction; a 2008 Chevrolet
Corvette 427 that sold for $80,000 at the 2009 Kansas City, Kan.
Auction; and a 1967 Chevrolet Corvette Convertible (Top Up) that Mecum
sold for $196,000 at the 2009 Bloomington Gold Corvette Auction.
The companies are also collaborating on a 1:18 scale replica of the
famous 1965 Shelby Daytona Cobra Coupe CSX2601, which sold at Mecum's
Monterey Auction in 2009 for a record-breaking $7.25 million - the
highest price ever paid for an American car at public auction. The
replica will be available July 2010 with only 1,900 produced.
"We are excited to grow our relationship with Mecum Auctions,"
said Jeff Nelson, national sales manager, GreenLight Collectibles.
"Their broad recognition and esteemed reputation in the auction
marketplace allows us to create replicas of some extremely remarkable
cars, and we look forward to working with them on more die-cast cars in
the future."
In addition to onsite auction sales, the die-cast cars are available at www.mecumgear.com
for $5 plus shipping and handling. They are also sold at select
retail outlets including Toys "R" Us, Inc., KMart and Meijer.
There will be more than 1,750 vehicles that will cross the block during
