Western States Corvette Council and Grand Sport Registry Each Make a Pledge to Join Motorsports Park's 'One Acre Club'
Friday, December 4, 2009 Buzz Marston, Public Relations and NCM Ambassador for the Council, presented Executive Director Wendell Strode of the National Corvette Museum with a $3,000 initial check and pledge of $15,000 to purchase an acre at the Motorsports Park.

"WSCC is proud to be a supporter of the NCM Motorsports Park "One Acre Club Program" and we encourage other clubs and organizations to get involved in support of this very worthwhile program," said Rob Weaver, president of WSCC.

CHANDLER, Ariz. - Ring in 2010 at thrilling speeds by participating in The Bob Bondurant School of High Performance Driving's annual New Year's Eve Rapid Precision Maneuvers (RPM) event on Thursday, Dec. 31, 2009, from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.
     
The New Year's Eve RPM program is a four-hour course featuring a timed autocross event, accident avoidance and lead and follow time on the 15-turn, 1.6-mile Bondurant track.  Bondurant's industry-leading instructors in charge of the program have taught everyone from professional racecar drivers and police officers to teenage students.

"Our Kansas City Auction continues to boast significant increases year after year in both sales and attendance, and this year was no exception as we offered nearly 500 classic, muscle and collector cars to enthusiastic bidders," said President Dana Mecum.  "Bidder numbers were very high and we finished the weekend with an impressive 68% sell-through rate.  The new venue at Bartle Hall was a fantastic move for the Mecum Auction team as well."

East Ohio Region of NCCC Makes Pledge
to Join Motorsports Park's 'One Acre Club'
Wednesday, December 2, 2009 Regional Executive of the East Ohio Region of NCCC Chuck Heretta and fellow member Ted Vannelli made the trek to Bowling Green, KY to present the National Corvette Museum with a $3,000 initial check and pledge of $15,000 to purchase an acre at the Motorsports Park. The East Ohio Region voted on October 17 to make the pledge, and made an official announcement just over two weeks ago at the Governor's Meeting of NCCC, challenging other regions to make the same commitment.

How to Lock Your Car and Why

I locked my car. As I walked away I heard my car door unlock. I went back and locked my car again three times .. Each time, as soon as I started to walk away, I would hear it unlock again!! Naturally alarmed, I looked around and there were two guys sitting in a car in the fire lane next to the store. They were obviously watching me intently, and there was no doubt they were somehow involved in this very weird situation. I quickly chucked the errand I was on, jumped in my car and sped away.. I went straight t o the police station, told them what had happened, and found out I was part of a new, and very successful, scheme being used to gain entry into cars. Two weeks later, my friend's son had a similar happening....

Chevrolet builds 1,500,000th Corvette

Pricing also announced for the 2010 Corvette Grand Sport

At the June meeting of the Greater Atlanta Automotive Media Association, Karen Rafferty, Chevrolet Product Marketing Director, today announced the recent production of the 1,500,000th Corvette at GM Bowling Green Assembly.

"The 1.5 millionth Corvette is a great example of how Chevy is America's Brand," Rafferty said. "For nearly 60 years we have built America's Sports Car and this milestone is a solid proof point."

MECUM REACHES $5.9 MILLION IN SALES AT 
BLOOMINGTON GOLD CORVETTE AUCTION

MARENGO, Ill. - Mecum Auction announces total gross sales, including buyer's premium, for the Bloomington Gold Corvette Auction, June 26-27, 2009, in St. Charles, Ill., were $5.9 million. 
     
More than 300 Corvettes crossed the auction block during the Mecum auction, which had a 43% sold rate.

Carlisle Events Racing Launches Corvette Endurance Race Team

Part I: Found in the Desert – Running at the Point – Winning for a Cause

CARLISLE, PA – Carlisle Events Racing is proud to announce the formation of a Corvette Endurance Race Team, racing its first race June12-13 at the SCCA 12-hour Endurance Race at Summit Point Motorsports Park in Summit Point, WV.

Found in the Desert - The two Corvettes that will be raced by Carlisle Events Racing have their own unique history. For the first part of their life they were driven by students of the Bondurant School of High Performance Driving in Phoenix, Arizona. According to maintenance records, the C5 Corvettes were also used by GM Performance in testing their high performance and racing parts.

GM PAPER STILL WORTH BIG BUCKS: BRIGHT SIDE
TO BIGGEST FAILURE IN U.S. AUTO INDUSTRY

         YONKERS, NY - June 4, 2009 - Stock certificates of GM may be near-
worthless, but a box of their old papers is expected to bring a bull-
market price. So says Cohasco, Inc., a dealer in historical
documents. For decades, these original certificates for the actual
trademarks of GM, Chrysler, and hundreds of other auto manufacturers
slumbered in storage. A colleague of Bill Harrah, the gambling
impresario and antique car collector, then used the official documents
to provide the exact dates that each car was introduced. The archive,
of 947 pieces in all, has survived the passage of time and are mostly
from the 1920s to 1940s.

Preparations are well under way for a new show that will be coming to the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center in Rosemont, (greater Chicago), Illinois. MARENGO, Ill. - Mecum Auction announces the McDorman Collection - 25 unique vehicles from noted collector and Chevrolet dealer Bob McDorman - will cross the auction block during Dana Mecum's Original Spring Classic Auction, May 13-17, 2009, in Indianapolis, Ind.
 
McDorman has an impressive collection in Canal Winchester, Ohio, and occasionally works through his extensive collection of nearly 300 cars to sell duplicates and make room for something even more unique.  Included in the cars up for bid is the world's first true high-performance Corvette: the 1955 Corvette Roadster Test Mule EX-87 (Lot F208).

Also crossing the auction block is a 1964 Corvette Coupe Ozzie Olson GM Styling Car (Lot F210).  Custom built by Bill Mitchell for industrialist Ozzie Olson, founder of the Olsonite Toilet Seat Company and famed sponsor of a series of Dan Gurney-built Eagle Indy 500 race cars, the 1964 Corvette Coupe features a 327/300 HP engine, automatic transmission, unique side exhaust, air conditioning, Pearl Blue exterior, Blue Line tires on chromed wire wheels as well as custom taillights, floor grates and vanity mirrors.

Bob Lutz moves to Senior Advisor Role; Will Retire at End of 2009
Tom Stephens Becomes Vice Chairman – Global Product Development

Feb. 9, 2009 -DETROIT – GM Chairman and CEO Rick Wagoner today announced that Robert A. Lutz, GM Vice Chairman – Global Product Development, will transition to a new role effective April 1, 2009 as Vice Chairman and Senior Advisor.  Lutz, 76, will provide strategic input into GM’s global design and key product initiatives until his retirement at the end of 2009. He will continue to report to Wagoner.

Wagoner also announced that effective April 1, 2009 the GM Board of Directors elected Thomas G. Stephens, Vice Chairman – Global Product Development, reporting to President and Chief Operating Officer Fritz Henderson.  Stephens, 60, is currently Executive Vice President, Global Powertrain and Global Quality.  In this new assignment, Stephens will maintain his responsibility for overseeing GM’s global quality activity.

    Vette Vues is saddened to report that we have lost our friend and Vette Vues contributor, Gary “Soupy” Campbell of Federal Way, Washington.  He passed away January 14, 2009 at the Franciscan Hospice Center in Tacoma, WA.  He was told he had bone cancer in his back. Full Story
